Keen to own a property relatively close to his parents in Invercargill, David and his wife purchased their home away from home in Queenstown early 2020. Living in Auckland, the holiday home gives the Aitkenheads the perfect combination of holiday and family time, while also renting it out when they are not there.
After the initial decision to buy a different home off the plans fell through, the couple decided to go bigger, and purchase a much more sizeable house on the lake. This appeals to guests traveling with families, and gives the Aitkenheads the space they need to have David’s parents, and other family members, over to stay. Not to mention it provides plenty of storage for the kayaks, bikes, and ski gear!
The couple took possession of the house during the March lockdown so uncertain times were ahead, but once they were able to get down to Queenstown and set up, it’s been smooth sailing ever since. “Even though it wasn’t ready for guests until July, it’s been booked almost every weekend since then.”
The Lakefront Delight is a five-bedroom holiday home with picture-perfect views over Lake Wakatipu. It has a spa pool, table tennis table, private jetty, and being positioned between Queenstown town centre and Frankton, there really is something for everyone to enjoy.

“Bachcare are proactive with the booking calendar and adjust the rates up or down depending on occupancy in the area. I like having one person on the ground who knows what is happening with the house. If there are any issues they can just go right around and sort it”.
The success of their first holiday home has far surpassed the couple’s expectations – the home has generated $42,246 gross earnings after only being with Bachcare for six months, receiving 27 bookings, as well as advance bookings for 2021.
